Pleasures Delight is a beautiful oriental gourmand from the house of Estee Lauder that promises to become for the modern woman what Estee Lauder’s classic scents were to women in decades gone by. From the onset there are some distinct similarities between Pleasures Delight and Thierry Mugler’s Angel. The head notes come in thick and fast and are sweet. But where a lesser fragrance would allow these to run rampant and overwhelm the senses Pleasures Delight introduces a brilliant pomegranate and a touch of citrus that cut through the sweetness and offer a little tartness as a counterpoint. Then as these introductory notes begin to settle the fragrance moves on into sheer floral territory that provides a brief refreshing intermission before more sweet notes come to the fore. Here you get vanilla pastry, caramel, strawberry and sugar on the bed of floral petals that I just mentioned. The effect is delicious and still manages to retain an element of freshness in the face of all those sweets. The perfect test for this is just how well this scent wears in warm weather where other gourmand scents become cloying and have you tugging at your clothing. The bottom end is The base is thick with musk and woods and a nice blend of patchouli. The patchouli is in no way overpowering in this arrangement but rather serves to ground the rest of the notes perfectly, adding some depth to the whole affair. This is a great scent, nowhere near as love or hate as Angel is and much more versatile. It is definitely one to consider if you like the thought of gourmands in theory but never feel comfortable with actually wearing them. A terrific perfume from an expert house of fragrances.
